In line with providing an insight into Kinetic’s progression over the last 26 years, biographies of employees from various departments will periodically appear in this section.

Born 17th April 1937, Terry’s hunger for selling started when he was aged just 13, where he sold beer in his father’s shop. At the age of 18 Terry entered the RAF Technical College at RAF Henlow, where he passed his Cambridge Mechanical Sciences qualifying exam. Upon leaving the RAF, Terry headed back to his roots in Manchester and embarked upon an Industrial Scholarship with Lancashire Dynamo Co. Around this time, he also completed a London External BSc 2nd in Electrical Engineering.
Leading on from this, Terry re-ignited the sales desire within him and became a novice salesman for a knitwear company in Hinckley. After learning the trade, Terry took up the position of Sales Manager. This solid grounding in sales led to him assisting with his uncle’s business of selling upholstery and curtain fabrics into the London markets.
A desire to be his own boss was fuelled by an article he saw in Reader’s Digest about Manpower offering franchises. Having undertaken the initial training, Terry launched his franchise in Northampton on 1st April, 1968. Working during the era when Harold Wilson was Prime Minister and the business environment was one of ‘’tighten your belt and grit your teeth’’, his sales grew and the franchise expanded to 3 offices within 3 years.
|
However, by 1971 the franchise ran out of money and was eventually rescued by Manpower. After 10 years with Manpower, Terry decided to take a year sabbatical. After a year out, he returned to the recruitment agency fold, working briefly for Blue Arrow in St.Albans, before setting up Kinetic. Terry launched Kinetic on the back of the foundations of having very broad based engineering experience (gained from the RAF), and his fine honed selling experience in the West End.

Although Terry retired from active day-to-day running of Kinetic in 1992, the appointment of M.D’s (Paul Adamson - 1992, Steve Bacon - 1997 and Neil Smith - 2001) ensured that Kinetic continued to grow and didn’t lose sight of its culture. Now at the age of 71, Terry continues to offer regular strategic direction to the company and remains the majority shareholder.
Terry is married to Dorothy; they have two children and several grandchildren. He enjoys travelling the world and has a keen interest in classic cars (undertaken various races, including the 2001 - Winter Challenge in France, which he raced a classic M.G).
