Kinetic powers forward to recruit for major Green Energy project

07/09/09

September saw Kinetic being awarded its potentially biggest win to date as part of a consortium of three partner agencies supplying temporary labour to the Hatfield Power Park build project in Doncaster. This five year project will see the construction of a 900 MW integrated coal gasification gas fired power station on the site of the Hatfield Colliery.

The client; Powerfuel, plans to construct the world’s first large scale integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC), near zero emissions power station with carbon capture capability.

Whilst the build project is unique in its own right so is the recruitment infrastructure surrounding it; Kinetic will join forces with HR Go and Force 10 Recruitment, with Exodus acting as the neutral master vendor under the banner of ‘Yorkshire Power’, working in true partnership and receiving an equal dividend of all opportunities.

A steering group has already been formed, with Rob Millns (Kinetic Regional Manager) representing Kinetic, whereby systems, processes, potential funding issues, potential training issues, PR opportunities, recruitment strategies, engaging the local community and working with Job Centre Plus are all being addressed as a group prior to the project starting in earnest in 2010.

The EPC contractor is yet to publish the man power schedule but the construction and commissioning phase 1 is expected to utilise a workforce of between 1200 and 1500 people, with a further 400 needed for phase 2. It is expected that the nominated sub contractors and the EPC contractor will bring 300 – 400 of their own staff with them, meaning 800 – 1100 will be supplied by the ‘Yorkshire Power’ consortium.

Rob Millns is obviously excited about Kinetic being involved in a project of this scale and added:

“Winning this contract is a testament to Kinetic’s expertise in delivering large scale recruitment projects, where a commitment to robust account management and bespoke service delivery is paramount. This is a great opportunity to prove our capability in the lucrative and very topical sector of green energy, giving us a case study to roll out elsewhere.”
