About the Company:
A specialist small boat manufacturing company based in Hazel Grove is seeking a CAD Engineer to join its growing team. The company designs and builds Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) and other powered vessels under 25 metres for commercial and recreational use. Known for its quality craftsmanship and innovative designs, the business is looking for a candidate with direct experience in the small boat sector.
About the Role:
This is a key engineering role within a close-knit design and production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings for a variety of marine craft. While a number of candidates have shown interest, the company is prioritising finding someone with practical experience in the design or engineering of small powered boats (vessels under 25m in length), which is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
* Create high-quality 2D and 3D CAD models for hulls, decks, internal layouts, and components
* Develop and maintain detailed technical drawings and production-ready documentation
* Liaise with production, technical, and sales teams to ensure designs are practical and aligned with customer requirements
* Contribute to the design and refinement of new and existing boat models
* Support prototyping, testing, and the development of tooling and fixtures
* Maintain accurate digital records of all design files and revisions
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
* Proven experience working on or designing small powered vessels (under 25m)
* Proficient in 3D CAD software - ideally SolidWorks, though other platforms will be considered
* Strong knowledge of marine engineering principles, materials, and construction methods
* Ability to produce clear and accurate manufacturing drawings
* Comfortable collaborating across departments and working to deadlines
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
Desirable:
* Experience with RIBs, tenders, or similar small craft
* Familiarity with CNC tooling and composite moulding processes
* Understanding of relevant marine regulations (e.g., CE, ISO, MCA)
* Hands-on experience in boat building or prototyping
