Kinetic are seeking to recruit an experienced Pipefitter for a permanent role with a Global business in the Glasgow area!
Role Description:
- A suitably qualified and experienced pipefitter who is trusted to carry out the fabrication and installation of pipe spools with the aim of delivering the best quality possible.
Role Responsibilities:
- Pipefitters are involved in the manufacturing and installation of small & large bore pipe spools using different materials.
Located in the Pipe Shop and on ship. Fabricating and preparing pipework in the Pipe shop ready to be installed on the ship.
Typical Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of quality standards
- Understanding all Assessments, Risk, PUWER & COSHH
- Understanding of Relevant Trade Drawings
- Knowledge of Tag Out process
- Ability to flow from Shop to Ship when required
Required Qualifications:
- SVQ/NVQ 3 Marine Engineering
- SVQ/NVQ 3 Apprenticeship or industry recognised equivalent.
- Relevant experience, post-apprenticeship, in a marine installation or industrial installation environment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- 6G Welding Qualified
- HNC Shipbuilding or Marine Engineering & Pipework
- Swagelok Training
- Lokring Training
- Lifting and slinging Qualifications

- Fitting/Working with; Elbows, T-Pieces, Flanges, Sleeves, Couplings & Bosses
- Knowledge of Pipeline Bracket Requirement
- Pipework Basic Tack Welding (MMA)
- Butt Weld Pipe Set Up
- Galvanising Process
- Basic Tack Welding (TIG)
- Double Leg, Single Leg, Alternative Manacle
- Swage, Stauff, Eucaro Coupling Training
- Installation of Blucher Pipe & Fittings
- Mechanical Compression Couplings
- Quality Inspections
- Rise Gland Packing
- Spools with Flanged Connections, Lokring Type Couplings, Mechanical Threads, Axial Connections
- Valve Installation & Operation
- Fitting of Stauff Volz Fittings
- Pipe Joint Integrity
- Cleaning Spillages using Spill Kit
- Lifting Using Chainblocks
- Hand Bending Pipework (Pulled & Hydraulic)
- Sketch, Measure and install Small-bore Pipework
- Understanding Relevant Trade Drawings
- Understand all Assessments - Risk, PUWER & COSHH
- Awareness of Relevant Manufacturing Instructions & Risk Assessments
Desirable Experience:
- Pipe MIG/TIG Welding
- Shot Blast Cabinets
- Fabrication of Square & Lateral Branches - Equal & Unequal
- Fabrication of Swept Tee Pieces
- Fabrication of Pipework
- Mechanical Compression Couplings
- Understanding of NDE Process
- Inspection of Pipework During Manufacture
- Sketch, Measure and install Small-bore Pipework
- Hand Bending Pipework (Pulled & Hydraulic)
- 6G (HLO-45) Pipe Welding
- Understand Relevant Trade Drawings
- Understand all Assessments, Risk, PUWER & COSHH
- Awareness of Relevant Manufacturing Instructions & Risk Assessments
Knowledge:
- Understanding of pipework installation drawings, manufacturing drawings and steelwork drawings.
- Understanding of SHE Risks Assessments, PUWER and COSHH.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, instructions and procedures.
- Range of tools, materials, equipment and components used when performing operations, their characteristics, features and their safe use, movement and operation.
- Importance of isolation procedures and permits for live systems
- Importance of restoring the work area to a tidy and safe state on completion of work and what this entails.
Expected Skills:
- Maintain the safety of self along with others by following safe systems of work when conducting operations.
- Select, use, maintain, and store appropriate resources safely and correctly (tools, equipment, machinery and consumables).
- Follow quality improvement principles, techniques, and methods and identify any areas for improvement.
- Install, position and secure marine equipment and components in accordance with design specification and following all required steps and checks for the approved work operation process and operational standards.
- Manufacture and install pipes using appropriate methods, in accordance with required specifications, and following all required steps and checks for the approved work operation process and operational standards.
