Maintenance Manager

Permanent

Package: Maintenance Manager Permanent Position Salary - £65k - £80k (depending on Experience) Dayshift working hours (must be flexible if needed) Company Bonus included Job Purpose To lead, manage and coordinate all Maintenance Department activities to ensure the safe, efficient and cost-effective operation of plant and equipment. The role is responsible for delivering company KPIs while ensuring full compliance with company policies, operating standards and relevant legislation. Key Responsibilities:- Leadership & Compliance * Lead the Maintenance team in full compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, Environmental and HR policies. * Ensure adherence to all applicable legislation (HSE, COSHH, waste regulations, LOLER, CE marking, Legionella control, etc.). * Promote a strong safety culture and ensure continuous improvement in health and safety standards. * Provide visible, positive leadership aligned with company values and the OGSM framework. * Ensure all team members understand and comply with relevant SOPs and quality standards. Maintenance Strategy & Delivery * Develop and implement the annual Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme, ensuring 100% compliance. * Coordinate closely with Production Supervisors to maximise plant availability and minimise downtime. * Lead continuous improvement (CI) initiatives, long-term maintenance improvement projects, and machinery upgrades/new installations. * Act as Maintenance Lead for digitalisation and capital upgrade projects. * Ensure timely completion of "close the loop" maintenance actions across the plants. Performance & Budget Management * Monitor departmental performance against agreed KPIs (H&S, Quality, Delivery, Cost). * Control R&M budgets, overtime, and capital expenditure to agreed targets. * Plan, organise and prioritise workloads to optimise resource utilisation. * Manage suppliers and contractors, ensuring safe working practices through the permit-to-work system. * Maintain cost control while delivering operational excellence. People Development * Develop team capability through training and succession planning. * Maintain accurate training records to ensure operational resilience and minimise downtime. * Foster a culture of engagement, accountability and continuous improvement. * Encourage knowledge sharing and best practice across teams. Stakeholder Management * Work closely with Production and other site departments at all levels. * Manage relationships with external suppliers, contractors and service providers. * Support activities at other sites as required. Planning & Organisation * Plan and prioritise maintenance schedules and resource allocation. * Identify training needs and manage team development. * Plan, justify and manage capital expenditure projects. Knowledge & Qualifications Essential: * HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, supported by a completed apprenticeship. * Strong understanding of Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental standards and their practical application. * Proven ability to analyse operational issues and implement effective solutions. Desirable: * Degree-level qualification in Engineering or related discipline. Skills & Competencies Essential: * Ability to manage complex operational challenges. * Strong communication and influencing skills across all organisational levels. * Effective workload management and prioritisation skills. * Demonstrated commitment to personal and team development. Experience Essential: * Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. * Practical application of continuous improvement tools and methodologies. * Experience within heavy engineering manufacturing Desirable: * Proven leadership experience in a supervisory or management role. * Budget management experience.
