Role: Metal Worker / Burner Join an expanding engineering and fabrication business specialising in bespoke structural, M&E projects. Job Summary as Metal Worker / Burner: Responsible for flame straightening, correcting distortions in metal components using controlled heat application. Using oxy-acetylene or similar torches to straighten plates, welded parts and structural shapes; ensuring conformance to engineering specifications. Details of the role as Metal Worker / Burner: Hours: Monday to Wednesday 07:00 to 17:00, Thursday 07:00 t0 16:30. Overtime is available on Friday paid at time and a half Hourly Rate: £14.63 Status: Temp to Perm at 26 weeks, following 'probationary' period. Key Responsibilities as Metal Worker / Burner: * Choose the correct torch tips and settings based on material type, thickness and required temperature. * Connect and operate oxy-fuel equipment safely, adjusting flame characteristics for precision heating. * Apply heat to metal surfaces to induce thermal expansion and contraction for straightening * Experience using measuring and inspection tools; using straightedges, templates or gauges to verify alignment * Perform minor mechanical & metal work corrections (e.g., hammering out bulges/ bends) * Maintain equipment and adhere to safety protocols during thermal operations * Collaborate with Fabricators, Welders, Platers, and other Engineers to support fabrication and repair workflows. Skills & Qualifications as Metal Worker / Burner: * Proficiency in oxy-acetylene torch operation * Understanding of material behaviour under heat (especially steel, stainless and aluminium) * Ability to read technical drawings and follow straightening procedures * Experience in structural fabrication is a plus * Strong attention to detail and safety awareness is essential! * Anyone who has worked in a furnace or hot steel processing background would be ideal. * Previous use of any oxy torches; bending, arc airing, gauging, burning, boiler making, bending, peening, linishing steels or other structural hot steel repairing. * This is a physical, labour intensive role.
